On November 27, 2017, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the results of the selection of academicians in 2017. Two candidates from Chongqing University were elected, Professor Pan Fusheng was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Tian Murakami was elected as the foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. So far, Chongqing University has seven academicians from both academies, and the other five are Yang Shizhong, Xian Xuefu, Zhou Xuhong, Yang Yongbin and Li Wenyuan (foreign academicians). In addition, Ahsan Kareem, a visiting professor appointed by Chongqing University in October 2017 and a member of the American Academy of Engineering and current chairman of the International Wind Engineering Society, was selected as a foreign academician of the Academy of Engineering.
Pan Fusheng, born in 1962 in Lanxi, Zhejiang Province, is a doctor, professor, doctoral supervisor, head of the national key disciplines of materials science of Chongqing University, head of the innovation team of "light metals" of the Ministry of Education, Dean of the Institute of Light Metals of Chongqing University, director of the National Research Center of Magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology, and director of the Chongqing Science and Technology Research Center. President, Vice President of Chongqing Association of Science and Technology. Visiting scientist of Chiba University in Japan, visiting professor of Queen Mary College in UK, Honorary Professor of Queensland University in Australia, academician of Russian Academy of Mining Sciences and academician of Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials Sciences. He is also the Chairman of the Technical Committee of Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Magnesium Alloys of Elsevier Publishing House, the Editorial Board Director of Science Publishing House, the Vice-Chairman of China Society for Materials Research, the Vice-Chairman of China Magnesium Association, and the Chairman of Chongqing Society of Materials.
Pan Fusheng has received bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Hefei University of Technology, Chongqing University and Northwest University of Technology. He graduated from the University at the age of 19 and was awarded the title of outstanding graduate; he was promoted to a professor at the age of 30 and became the youngest professor in the history of Chongqing University at that time; he was appointed doctoral tutor of Chongqing University in 1995 and the youngest expert member of the discipline review group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council in 1998. She has studied at Oxford University, Stuttgart University, Queen Mary College and Queensland University in Australia. As a representative of outstanding returnees from overseas studies, he has been interviewed by the main leaders of the Central Committee for many times because of his remarkable achievements during his study abroad.
Pan Fusheng specializes in the research and application of magnesium alloys, aluminium alloys, tool steels, metallurgical casting and rolling technology, metallurgical melt purification technology and so on, especially in magnesium alloys. He is an internationally renowned magnesium alloy scientist and aluminium alloy expert. He has established the National Research Center of Magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology, and established a research team with important influence in the world. For more than 30 years, Professor Pan Fusheng and his team have focused on solving the key problems of poor plasticity, difficult forming and low purity of magnesium alloys. They have undertaken a number of important national projects and many important international cooperation projects, such as high plasticity magnesium alloys, advanced forming technology and deep purification. Major innovative achievements have been made in this field, which has made important contributions to the development and growth of magnesium science, technology and industry in China and to the world. More than 350 SCI papers and 12 books have been published in world famous journals. It has won 4 National Technology Invention Awards and Science and Technology Progress Awards, more than 10 provincial and ministerial important science and technology awards, more than 100 patents for invention authorized by the state, and many national standards have been formulated and approved. We have trained 17 postdoctoral students and more than 80 doctoral and postgraduate students. He Liang Holi Award, National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talents, National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, American Dupont Science and Technology Innovation Award and the Second China Youth Science and Technology Award are the first batch of leaders of the National Ten Thousands Plan. Pan Fusheng has served as Chairman of the International Magnesium Alloy Conference for four consecutive sessions, and has been invited to serve as Co-Chairman of the European Material Conference and Chairman of the World Material Summit Round Table.
Pan Fusheng is a member of the Ninth, Eleventh and Twelfth National Political Consultative Conference and a representative of the Tenth National People's Congress.
